Perfectly Poached

Have you ever gone to a restaurant, ordered poached eggs, and out comes the most beautiful, soft, pillow-like egg, dainty yet solid, and just so perfect? Then thought, 'Why can't I do that?'. You're not alone...

(Yes! This picture was taken by me!)

I have also tried to make poached eggs more times than I will admit. They are hard little buggers to make properly. But, not now! After reading a multitude of recipes and trying them out for myself, I have found the PERFECT way to make a poached egg!

First, boil 3-4 cups of water with 3-4 teaspoons of vinegar. Boil the water until it starts bubbling like crazy. Break ONE egg into a small bowl that will also fit into the pot you're boiling water.

Once the water is at a boil, furiously stir the water with a whisk, lower the heat as you do so and.....

...quickly but carefully put the egg in the water (while the water is still swirling). Get the bowl as close to the water without disturbing the swirling.

The spinning of the water caused by the whisking will allow the egg to cook together rather than separate in the water.

See! There's the egg, in one beautiful pillow-like form

About 3 minutes on a low heat (no, or very few and small bubbles) will cook the egg so the whites are cooked and the yellow is still runny. Using a slotted spoon, carefully lift the egg out of the water and place on a plate.

Your end result, a beautiful, fluffy, soft yet firm, poached egg! Happy Cooking and Enjoy!!
